Frequently asked questions about The Spoonist
Short, direct answers about how these guides are researched, how the site is funded, and what our product data does and does not mean.
How do you choose which products to include in a guide?
We start from the products people actually search for, then keep only listings that carry a substantial body of owner reviews. If a product cannot be verified as a live Amazon listing, it does not go into a guide.
Do you test products yourself?
No. The Spoonist is a research-based publication, not a testing lab, and we do not claim hands-on or lab testing. What we do is read large volumes of owner reviews, compare published specifications, and explain what to check in a listing before you buy.
How does The Spoonist make money?
Through the Amazon Associates programme. If you buy through one of our links we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Commission never decides which products appear in a guide or how they are ordered.
Why does the price in an article differ from Amazon?
Prices change constantly. Every price we show is the price recorded on the date noted in that article, so always confirm the live price on Amazon before buying.
Are the star ratings in your guides your own scores?
No. Every rating and review count we display is the Amazon listing’s own figure, recorded on the date shown. We do not invent, estimate or round star ratings.
Do you accept payment for placement or better ranking?
No. Brands cannot pay to be included in a guide, and they cannot pay to be ranked first. Placement is decided by the research criteria described in our editorial policy.
How often are your guides updated?
Guides are re-checked periodically, and each one shows the date it was last updated. If a listing changes materially, the guide is revised or the product is removed.
Can you tell me which product is right for my kitchen?
We can tell you which constraints matter. Footprint, clearance, capacity and fuel type decide far more than brand does, so measure your space and compare those numbers against the listing before ordering.
